Quantum Construction, Inc. completed an emergency demolition of a 145′ historic landmark smoke stack on March 4th, 2001. The smoke stack was located at the Seafarers’ Memorial Park in Anacortes. Although a historic landmark, the smokestack sustained damage during an earthquake that posed a hazard to public safety with dislodged bricks and serious structural problems. The project fit well with Quantum’s ongoing commitment to safety, both of general public and Quantum employees.
With safety in mind and a desire to minimize destruction to the surrounding park, a professional demolition company was brought in to implode the stack. After the implosion, Quantum Construction, Inc. cleaned up debris and collateral damage including the sprinkler system, re-landscaped and poured the concrete for the memorial. Controlled Demolition, Inc. out of Maryland was hired by Quantum as the demolition subcontractor. This firm is the same firm that imploded the King Dome
