Didgʷálič Wellness Center

Location
Anacortes
Architect
Brooks Middleton

The Didgʷálič Wellness Center is a community health center established by the Swinomish Tribe to provide comprehensive services for substance abuse disorders and mental health challenges in Skagit County and the surrounding area.

The project was a remodel of a metal building that previously housed Bayside Fitness. It was gutted down to the structural components and the interior was completely rebuilt to serve the needs of the clinic. The project included offices, security, a secure dosing center, medical exam rooms and offices, group and conference rooms, and more. The entry façade was rebuilt to integrate tribal architecture into the building as well. Two additional factors that were implemented included high levels of security and extensive sound isolation for privacy.

Two incredible features of the project included wood accent walls and epoxy floor coatings. The wood accent walls envelop the public entry with accents in group rooms and the medical wing. Milled from douglas fir, they add both durability and warm beauty to the areas they are in. Most of the clinic floors an epoxy coating with a custom broadcast flake. They provide an extremely durable, easily cleanable surface that looks amazing!
